Coffee houses and regulars

The first coffee houses were opened in Pest during the reform, and very soon they became a popular place to spend their leisure time: free newspaper, pleasant environment, good company. And they also attracted small-money intellectuals: writers and artists were happy to spend hours with a cup of coffee. The caf茅s soon appeared in Szeged and the then Black Eagle, the Golden Peacock, the Prophet, the Hungaria or the Golden Lion quickly became popular. Not only coffee houses but also famous guests were popular. We know where Miksz谩th went, later G谩rdony or T枚m枚rk茅ny, where Ferenc M贸ra or Gyula Juh谩sz's place was, where Attila J贸zsef got the free breakfast and where Pista Dank贸 pulled it. During a few long steps you can get a taste of the atmosphere of the happy peacetimes, the caf茅 etiquette and the lives of Szeged's most beloved downtown cafes and guests.
